The V-42 knife has a 7 5/16" stiletto blade with distinctive 'Thumbprint" on the obverse ricasso. The bright steel guard is backed with leather. The handle is made of serrated leather washers and the steel butt has a sharp point. The blade is marked "CASE" below the "Thumbprint".

This knife was issued to Staff Sergeant Arthur E. Duebner, 2nd Regiment, 1st Special Service Force. Sergeant Duebner carried the V-42 as a member of the 1st Special Service Force during the invasion of Kiska, Aleutian Islands in 1943, in the battles of Mt. LaDifnesa and Anzio The V-42 was designed in part by the Commanding Officer of the First Special Service Force, The Devil's Bridgade; Lt. Colonel Robert T. Frederick. The knife was designed and constructed with the sole purpose of battle in mind. The original V-42s were produced during WW2 for an elite commando unit, “The Devil’s Brigade”. There were two reproductions of this knife, produced by Case in 1992 and 1998, both in limited numbers.
